A special audit of Islamabad’s veterinary laboratories has uncovered serious irregularities in the supply of vaccines meant to protect millions of sheep and goats from deadly diseases.
According to the Auditor General’s report, payments worth Rs. 20 million were made to suppliers without delivering the full quantity of vaccines. The report states that a vaccine supply company was paid on the basis of fake delivery challans, with 2.4 million doses falsely entered into official records to justify the payments.
The company was contracted to supply 17 million doses of the livestock vaccine, but delivered only 14 million doses, valued at Rs. 114.6 million, instead of the agreed Rs 133.4 million.
These irregularities were found in vaccine supplies sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Hyderabad, as well as to Quetta, Lahore, and Muzaffarabad.
The Auditor General has recommended a formal inquiry into the payments made without delivery, and has urged action against those involved in falsifying data entries and approving payments without verification.
