Cabinet Approves Senator Ahmed Khan’s Appointment to RERA Board

The Federal Cabinet has approved the nomination of Senator Ahmed Khan as a member of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority. The President of Pakistan had approved the Islamabad Real Estate (Regulations and Development) Act in November 2020. The objective of the Act is to regulate and promote the real estate sector and to implement measures for the appropriate protection of real estate buyers, along with the regulation of mega projects in the real estate sector by any developer. As per Section 20 of the Islamabad Real Estate (Regulations and Development) Act, 2020, “the Federal Government shall, within a period of one year from the date of coming into force of this Act, by notification, establish an Authority to be known as the Real Estate Regulatory Authority to exercise the powers conferred on it and to perform the functions assigned to it under this Act.” As per Section 21 of the Act, the Authority shall consist of the following six members, who shall be notified by the Ministry in the official gazette: Accordingly, all stakeholders furnished nominations to the Ministry, and as per Section 20 of the Act, the Islamabad Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) was established and notified on 20.10.2021 with the approval of the Cabinet dated 12.10.2021. The following individuals were appointed as members of the Board of the Authority: The Senate Secretariat has informed that Senator Kauda Babar retired from the Senate after completing his six-year term on 11th March 2024 and is no longer a member of the Senate. Therefore, the Chairman of the Senate has nominated Senator Ahmed Khan as a member of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority and requested that his nomination be notified. In view of the above, it is proposed that Senator Kauda Babar be de-notified as a member of RERA and Senator Ahmed Khan be notified as a member of RERA in his place.
