The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is once again preparing to extend the deadline for income tax returns by an additional 15 days, pushing it to October 31, 2025, sources told ProPakistani.
According to sources, the official notification will be issued after 6 pm.
Earlier, the FBR had categorically denied any extension, stating that the September 30 deadline would stand and warning taxpayers of penalties for late filing.
However, mounting pressure from business groups and tax professionals has reportedly convinced the board to reconsider its decision.
Just days ago, ProPakistani reported that high-ranking officials within the FBR favored moving the deadline to October 14, citing system issues, data delays, and the need for more time for hard-hit taxpayers.
The FBR had already granted an extension earlier, declaring October 15 as the new deadline under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
In the past, the FBR has noted that in cases of extreme hardship, an individual taxpayer may request up to 15 extra days, but only if the due taxes are paid by the original cutoff date.
Trade associations like the FPCCI have called for further relief, urging the FBR to extend the deadline to October 31, citing difficulties in obtaining documents, technical issues with the IRIS portal, and ERP integration hurdles.
If confirmed tonight, this extension would offer much-needed breathing space to millions of taxpayers scrambling to meet compliance obligations amid technical glitches and workflow bottlenecks.
