The federal government has appointed Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar as the Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) for a term of five years.
The appointment was approved by the President of Pakistan, acting as the Chancellor of the university, under the provisions of the COMSATS University Islamabad Act, 2018.
An official notification from the Ministry of Science and Technology confirmed the decision stating that the appointment would take effect from the date Dr. Qamar assumes charge. The terms and conditions of service will be issued separately.
The notification, signed by Section Officer Saqib Ali Khan, also directed the Printing Corporation of Pakistan Press, Karachi to publish the announcement for record.
Dr. Raheel Qamar previously served as Rector of the institution and played a key role in transforming the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) into a full-fledged university.
His leadership and academic vision helped position CUI among Pakistan’s leading higher education institutions.
A Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Qamar pursued research at top universities in the United States, including Yale University. His international exposure has strengthened COMSATS’ academic partnerships and boosted its global research presence.
Dr. Qamar also serves as a Science Advisor at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). In this role, he contributes to developing science and technology policies across the Muslim world.
