The federal government has taken the first step towards revising the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award by summoning provincial representatives to a meeting on November 18, according to official sources.
The Ministry of Finance extended the date for the initial meeting at the request of the provinces, after the NFC session was originally scheduled for November 10, 2025.
Sources told ProPakistani that if the date remains unchanged, the meeting could mark significant progress towards the eleventh NFC Award.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is also expected to be on board with the commission’s proposals for the new National Finance Award, sources added.
If the process moves forward without delays, it could take approximately six to eight months to finalize the new award.
So far, two provinces have confirmed their participation in the NFC meeting on November 18. Previously, the first session was postponed due to floods, following requests from the provinces.
The NFC Award determines the distribution of financial resources between the federal government and the provinces, and any changes are closely watched by both domestic and international stakeholders.
