Despite closing the year just shy of the all-time high mark, the price of gold in Pakistan maintained a consistent upward trend for most of the year.
The price of gold (24 carats) in Pakistan was Rs. 220,000 per tola at the end of 2023. Since then, gold has risen by Rs. 52,600 per tola, closing at Rs. 272,600 per tola today (December 31) translating to a gain of 24 percent.
It is pertinent to mention here that the price of the precious metal had hit an-all time high of Rs. 287,900 towards the end of October 2024. However, in the following two months, the price has largely remained range-bound around the Rs. 275,00 per tola level.
According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewelers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), there was no change in the price of gold in the local market today with 24-karat gold being sold at Rs. 272,600 per tola while 24-karat gold per 10-gram was sold at Rs. 233,711. Meanwhile the price of 22-karat gold stood at Rs. 214,235 per 10-gram.
In the international market, spot gold was up 0.4 percent to $2,615.00 per ounce as of 0927 GMT, while US gold futures were up 0.4 percent to $2,627.30. In the international market, gold has gained more than 26 percent this year, the biggest annual jump since 2010.
