Here’s How Much Revenue Telecom Sector Generated in FY2024-25
Pakistan’s telecom sector generated Rs. 803 billion in revenues during the first nine months of FY2025 (July–March), while attracting $621 million in investment and contributing Rs. 271 billion to the national exchequer through taxes and duties, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25 released ahead of the federal budget. Despite economic challenges, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) continued efforts to meet growing consumer demand for reliable and accessible digital services. The sector saw steady progress in expanding nationwide connectivity, supported by updated regulatory frameworks and infrastructure development. By December 2024, the country had 57,063 operational cell sites, with 96.2% supporting 4G. Cellular services now cover 91% of the population, while 3G/4G availability extends to over 81% of the country. The expansion of telecom infrastructure has driven a sharp rise in broadband adoption. As of March 2025, the number of broadband users reached 147.2 million, bringing the broadband penetration rate to 59.8%, up from 32.6% in 2019.
