IMF to Send Delegation to Pakistan for Governance Review
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has decided to send a delegation to Pakistan to provide technical assistance related to governance matters, sources told ProPakistani.
The IMF delegation’s visit will focus on providing technical assistance related to governance issues. This visit is a follow-up to the IMF’s previous diagnostic review of governance and corruption in Pakistan.
There is no scheduled IMF visit for budget-related discussions. Budget-related talks are likely to occur virtually.
An IMF mission visited Pakistan from February 6 to 14, 2025, to prepare for a diagnostic review of governance and corruption. The mission’s goal was to conduct a preliminary assessment of governance and corruption risks in six core state functions. These functions include fiscal governance, central bank governance and operations, financial sector oversight, market regulations, rule of law, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing.
The IMF scoping mission held meetings with various stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and State Bank of Pakistan. The delegation also consulted with the Ministry of Law, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and the Auditor General of Pakistan. Additionally, the mission met with representatives from the business community, civil society, and international partners.
The IMF commended the Pakistani government’s seriousness and commitment. The lender expressed hope for continued cooperation with Pakistan.
