KP to Convert 100 Schools and 3,050 Mosques to Solar Energy

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched solar energy projects to address electricity issues in the merged tribal districts. Some of these projects have already been completed successfully. According to a report by Business Recorder, 900 mosques and places of worship have been converted to solar energy, generating 1.73 MW of electricity daily and saving millions of rupees each month. This year, the provincial government plans to convert 1,100 schools and 3,050 mosques to solar energy in Khyber district. Furthermore, business centers will be linked to solar mini-grids. Haji Iqbal Afridi, the National Assembly member from Khyber district, assured that all commitments to residents of merged tribal areas would be met. He made these remarks during a meeting on the progress of solar energy projects in Khyber, supervised by PEDO, an Energy & Power Department KP division. PD Engr Asfand Yar Khan informed the meeting about three major ongoing solar energy projects. It includes building a mini-grid in Bara Bazaar and installing solar panels in 1,100 schools and 3,500 mosques. He added that the transmission line work is nearly finished and that all three solar energy projects in Khyber district are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
