In a landmark development for Pakistan’s capital market, National Clearing Company Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) in collaboration with Pakistan Stock Exchange, Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited and under the stewardship of Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan has officially announced February 9, 2026, as the date for the transitioning from a T+2 to T+1 Settlement Cycle for the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The Chairman SECP highlighted Pakistan’s early adoption of the T+1 settlement cycle by following in the footsteps of developed and emerging markets such as USA, China, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina. He further emphasized that Pakistan’s alignment with global best practices reflects the increasing maturity, readiness, and resilience of its capital markets.
The event was also graced by the presence of Chairperson PSX Board Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, who recorded her deepest appreciation to the team whose tireless commitment, courage to embrace change, and belief in the potential of Pakistan’s Capital Market has provided an opportunity to move forward with this strategic proposal. Pakistan’s move to a T+1 settlement cycle is not an isolated incident; rather, it is part of a broader global momentum towards building faster and more efficient financial markets.
Following her remarks, Mr. Naveed Qazi, CEO of NCCPL, emphasized the critical importance of transitioning to the T+1 settlement cycle, calling it a pivotal step toward enhancing market efficiency and investor confidence. He also highlighted and appreciated the SECP’s step of formation of an Implementation Committee, tasked with overseeing the process which had representation from all key stakeholders.
