Pakistan-IMF Talks for $1 Billion Loan Tranche to Begin This Month
Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are set to begin negotiations for the release of the next $1 billion loan tranche under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) later this month, sources told ProPakistani. According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, the IMF delegation is scheduled to visit Pakistan on September 25 to initiate discussions on the second economic review. Preparations for the talks are underway, with the Ministry of Finance finalizing economic data to be shared with the IMF. Sources indicate that successful completion of the review will pave the way for the IMF Board’s approval, following which Pakistan is expected to receive the $1 billion tranche. The upcoming visit is part of the 37-month, $7 billion EFF program, which was agreed upon in September 2024. Under this program, Pakistan has already received over $2 billion in two installments. Additionally, Pakistan and the IMF have finalized a climate financing agreement, under which the country will receive $1.3 billion over 28 months to address climate-related challenges.
