Pakistana Can Earn Billions of Dollars With Modernized Sea Port Systems: PM Shehbaz

Pakistan can earn billions of dollars in foreign exchange by modernized port systems and improved access, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz stressed the importance of enhancing existing ports in Karachi to boost exports from value-added industries. He instructed authorities to reduce the time taken in customs clearance by installing modern scanning machinery at Port Qasim and Karachi Port. Shehbaz further ordered to fully utilize the port capacities and ensure the Lyari Expressway remains open for cargo traffic 24/7. He also suggested connecting the Malir Expressway to the port for improved goods delivery. He called for reducing fees for LNG ships at Port Qasim and for a comprehensive action plan to regulate shipping laws and enhance operational efficiency. Shehbaz said the government was committed to developing the private sector by easing business operations and facilitating investors. He went on to say that Pakistan’s economy was stable and progressing towards development, with all possible support being provided to exporters. Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, senior officials of Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation also attended this meeting. The premier is currently on a day-long visit to Karachi and is expected to return to the federal capital next week.
