PM Shehbaz Orders Urgent Investigation of Wheat Scandal

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an urgent investigation into the mysterious disappearance of 34,000 tons of wheat at the hands of Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) in 2022. Shehbaz has demanded the probe be completed within a week. He specifically directed the tracing of the missing wheat and the completion of the inquiry against former PASSCO Managing Director within one week. FIA has been summoned to assist with the investigation. Shehbaz Sharif has also ordered action against officials responsible for damaging stored wheat during the 2022 floods. He has requested comprehensive reports from the Ministry of Food Security and Finance Division on outsourcing PASSCO’s functions and questioned why government subsidies did not benefit the public. He further ordered an inquiry into PASSCO’s administrative expenditures, bank arrears, and interest. The government plans to file references with the FIA and NAB against those involved in the corruption.
