Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken note of the recent salary and perk increases granted to the National Assembly Speaker and the Senate Chairman, ARY News reported today.
The prime minister also raised concerns about the salary hikes for Senate Deputy Chairman Sardar Syedaal Khan Nasar and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah.
He has requested a detailed report from the heads of both the Senate and the National Assembly, stating that a final decision on the salary revisions will be made after reviewing the report.
According to a notification dated May 29, the Senate chairman and NA speaker’s salaries have been raised from Rs. 205,000 to Rs. 1,300,000 besides 50 percent of the revised salary as the sumptuary allowance.
Earlier, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also criticized the raises, describing them as an example of “financial extravagance.”
