Senior IRS, Customs Officers Start Lobbying for Chairman FBR Position

After the early retirement request of Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Amjad Zubair Tiwana, the Inland Revenue and Pakistan Customs, senior officers have started their lobbying for the top tax department slot, sources told ProPakistani. Officials told ProPakistani that the government may post a new Chairman FBR from within the department or some other services or even from the private sector. Some names are under circulation for the chairman FBR position. These include Hamid Atiq Sarwar, Advisor (Revenue) in Revenue Mobilization, Investment and Trade Programme by FCDO UK, Faiz Ahmed Chaddar, Director General (DG) Customs Academy, former chairman FBR Dr Ashfaq and Secretary Power Rashid Langrial. Hamid Attique had served as Member IR Policy while Faiz ahmed also remained in the position of Director General Customs Intelligence. The Shehbaz Sharif-led government had also appointed Tariq Pasha as Revenue advisor, and now State Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Energy Ali Pervaiz Malik started to sit in FBR headquarters. Sources said that the government will pick those official as new chairman FBR who will be able to implement the reform agenda, including digitization in FBR. It is pertinent to note that FBR Chairman Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana has sought an early retirement from service.
