Legal proceedings have been formally initiated against LUNA, a Pakistani coffee chain, in the Consumer Protection Court, Karachi (South), over allegations of deceptive marketing and misleading trade practices.
According to court documents and legal representatives, the complaint, filed by Abdullah Bin Masood and represented by Barrister Hasan Khurshid Hashmi, Advocate Supreme Court, alleges that LUNA Pakistan has allegedly replicated the brand identity, logo, and overall aesthetic of international coffee houses, particularly LUNA Coffee Saudi Arabia, as well as LUNA Russia and LUNA Dubai.
The complaint contends that LUNA Pakistan allegedly misled consumers into believing it was an authorized franchise or affiliate of these foreign brands.
Following a preliminary hearing, the Consumer Protection Court has issued a formal notice to LUNA Pakistan under Section 26 of the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2014.
The notice requires the respondent to appear before the court and answer the allegations of false representation and misleading marketing practices.
The court has warned that failure to appear or submit a defense could result in the case being decided in the respondent’s absence. The next hearing is scheduled for November 21, 2025.
In response to the legal notice and ongoing proceedings before the Consumer Protection Court, Karachi (South), LUNA Coffee Pakistan categorically denies all allegations of deceptive marketing, trademark infringement, or false representation.
“The notice is misconceived, legally unsustainable, and motivated by mala fide intent to harass and extort our business. LUNA Coffee is an independent, reputable, and rapidly growing local brand, established and operating transparently in Karachi since 2024,” said a statement.
“We emphasize that LUNA Coffee Pakistan has no affiliation, endorsement, or association with any foreign entity, including those operating under similar names in other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Russia, or Dubai. Public information confirms that these international businesses are separately owned and not correlated with one another. Our name, logo, and design are accepted trademarks duly recognized by the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan, confirming the originality and lawful standing of our branding,” LUNA told ProPakistani.
LUNA Coffee also rejects all claims of deceptive pricing or deficient service. Our products are sold at fair, competitive market rates, and no complaint was raised by the complainant at the time of purchase. The allegations are unfounded, speculative, and intended solely to malign our reputation.
“We have called for the immediate withdrawal of the notice and will vigorously defend ourselves against any false or malicious legal action. We remain confident that the proceedings will reaffirm our independent and lawful standing as a proudly Pakistani brand,” the coffee brand added.
