FBR Reports 29.4% Jump in Direct Tax Collection in First Half of FY25

Direct tax collection surged by 29.4 percent in the first six months of the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching Rs. 632.7 billion, higher than the same period last year, according to the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) biannual review. In December 2024 alone, direct tax collection recorded a sharp increase of 36.1 percent year-on-year. Sales tax revenue also saw a significant rise of 25.3 percent, adding Rs. 382.9 billion during July-December. Sales tax from imports increased by 16.8 percent, while domestic sales tax grew by 38.6 percent. In December 2024, total sales tax collection climbed by 33.3 percent, with imports contributing a 30.1 percent increase and domestic sales tax up by 38.3 percent. Federal Excise Duty (FED) collection posted a robust 31 percent increase, adding Rs. 82 billion compared to the previous year. In December alone, FED collection surged by 61.3 percent. Customs duty revenue rose by 10.7 percent, generating an additional Rs. 58 billion in 1HFY25. In December, customs duty collection increased by 22.7 percent year-on-year.
