Govt to Help 19 Pakistani Companies Added on the US Trade Ban List
The government is ready to assist the 19 Pakistani technology companies recently sanctioned by the United States in pursuing appeal procedures, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, informed the National Assembly in a written reply. He stated that the government will extend support to these companies upon request and also help them explore alternate trade routes to maintain access to essential technologies. According to the minister, on 25 March 2025, the US Commerce Department added 80 firms from several countries, including China, the UAE, and South Africa, to its Entity List. Among these were 19 Pakistani technology companies, which the US accused of having links to Pakistan’s strategic program. The sanctions restrict the companies from accessing US-origin technologies and goods without special authorization. The minister rejected these allegations, stating that Pakistan’s strategic program is fully compliant with both international and domestic laws. The sanctions have had a disruptive impact on the operations of the targeted technology companies. The minister said that the US actions are hindering the ability of these companies to engage in legitimate trade and technological development. The restrictions also pose broader consequences for the national economy by affecting sectors reliant on technological innovation and exports. The minister criticized the sanctions as politically motivated and biased, stating that they conflict with the principles of fair international trade and cooperation. He added that such measures are counterproductive to the goals of global export control regimes and restrict the ability of developing countries to grow through access to advanced technologies. To address the issue, the government has raised its concerns at multilateral platforms, including the United Nations. Pakistan is advocating for a fair and non-discriminatory global export control system and greater technological access for developing nations. The government has reaffirmed its support for the sanctioned technology companies, offering assistance both in legal appeals and in identifying alternative sources of trade and technology.
