Govt’s Next Move Could End 20 Positions in FBR
The federal government is considering a proposal to end the appointment of Inland Revenue Service (IRS) officers in Income Tax Appellate Tribunals, well-informed sources within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) informed ProPakistani. Sources said that if this proposal is implemented, about 20 such positions will be terminated. The new proposal suggests appointing retired officers instead. Currently, 21 out of 52 Grade-21 IRS officers are serving in Appellate Tribunals. However, there will be no changes to the appointment of Customs officers in Customs Appellate Tribunals. Sources did mention that IRS officers fear this move could hinder their career growth (promotion) prospects in the service.
