Here’s Preliminary Report on Destruction Caused by Floods 2025

The devastating floods of 2025 have caused widespread destruction across Pakistan, with over 6,200 livestock lost and 672 kilometers of roads damaged, according to a preliminary report by the Planning Commission. The report highlights the severe human and economic toll of the floods, which have affected multiple provinces, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Islamabad. So far, the floods have claimed 863 lives and left 1,147 people injured. Additionally, 9,166 houses have been damaged, and 239 bridges have been destroyed, further crippling infrastructure in the affected regions. The Planning Commission has announced that it will finalize a comprehensive assessment of the economic losses caused by the floods within two weeks. The report will guide the government’s recovery and rehabilitation efforts. The floods have shown Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate-induced disasters, with the destruction echoing the catastrophic floods of 2022. The government has already activated its Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) to coordinate damage assessments and relief efforts in collaboration with provincial and federal authorities. In response to the crisis, the government has evacuated 936,000 people and established 1,378 relief camps to provide immediate assistance. The focus remains on integrating climate-resilient frameworks into national development strategies to ensure both short-term relief and long-term preparedness.
