Lucky Cement to Expand Congo Plant, Boosting Global Capacity to 23.15 Million Tons
Lucky Cement Limited announced plans to significantly expand its cement production capacity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through its joint venture with the Rawji Group, Nyumba Ya Akiba (NYA), as demand in the region continues to rise. According to a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, NYA will increase its current capacity from 1.31 million tons per annum (MTPA) to 2.91 MTPA by adding a fully integrated manufacturing line of 1.6 MTPA. The expansion is aimed at meeting the growing cement demand in the DRC, driven by ongoing economic activity and a surge in construction projects. The company said the move will also help NYA maintain its market leadership and improve operational efficiency. Following this expansion, Lucky Cement’s total domestic and international cement capacity will reach 23.15 MTPA. The company’s portfolio includes fully integrated cement plants in Pakistan (15.30 MTPA), grinding and integrated plants in Iraq (Al-Mabrooka Cement Company in Basra with 1.74 MTPA and Najmat Al-Samawah in Samawah with a combined 3.20 MTPA), and the expanded NYA facility in the DRC. Lucky Cement emphasized its commitment to entrepreneurship and portfolio diversification, with interests spanning automobiles, chemicals, agricultural sciences, mobile phone assembly, energy, and mining. The company said it remains focused on enhancing earnings quality and maximizing shareholder value.
