The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has successfully recovered over 204 kanals of land that were allegedly transferred to Malik Riaz-owned Bahria Town Lahore without any legal grounds.
The land originally belonged to the Official Employees Cooperative Housing Society Ltd and is located in Mauza Manak and Mauza Bhai Kot, Tehsil Raiwind, Lahore.
NAB confirmed that the land, valued in billions of rupees, was allegedly transferred illegally through the collusion of officials from the housing society, the revenue department, and Bahria Town Lahore. The fraudulent transfer was exposed following an inquiry initiated by NAB, reported a national daily.
The entire land has now been restored to the OECHS housing society.
Malik Riaz, currently residing in the United Arab Emirates, has been declared an alleged absconder in the Al-Qadir Trust case, in which former prime minister Imran Khan was convicted. NAB has announced plans to seek Riaz’s extradition through Interpol in connection with the £190 million repatriation case investigated by the UK’s National Crime Agency.
NAB has frozen numerous assets linked to Bahria Town and Malik Riaz on charges of alleged illegal occupation of public and private land. The bureau has also warned the public against investing in any Bahria Town projects, including a planned development in Dubai.
