Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged full transparency and merit in the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), announcing that the bidding process scheduled for December 23 will be broadcast live on national television.
Speaking at a meeting with business leaders and representatives of all bidding entities at the Prime Minister’s House, Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring the national flag carrier’s reputation and aligning it with modern aviation standards. The session was attended by several federal ministers, advisers, and senior officials.
The prime minister said the privatization process is progressing smoothly and is aimed at reviving PIA as a competitive airline. He expressed confidence that new management would restore the airline’s image and focus on growth, reiterating the slogan, “Great People to Fly With.”
Sharif highlighted that the restoration of PIA’s international flight operations would benefit overseas Pakistanis and support the country’s tourism sector.
He also noted that, according to the Privatisation Commission, PIA will be sold this year, but buyers will not receive government guarantees.
Participants at the meeting welcomed the government’s professional and transparent approach to the privatization process.
