The government has decided to launch a major crackdown against sugar hoarders and speculators involved in artificially inflating prices, according to official sources.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a high-level meeting on the issue, where a detailed briefing will be given on measures to curb artificial price manipulation in the sugar market.
Sources confirmed that the prime minister approved the crackdown on Thursday and directed legal action against those involved in hoarding, price manipulation, and cartelization.
Raids, arrests, and strict enforcement actions will be taken against those involved in sugar hoarding. The Prime Minister has granted full powers to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), and other relevant agencies to act decisively against the culprits.
