All KP Government Buildings Are Being Converted to Solar Power
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is set to implement an extensive solarisation project across the province. The project aims to power public sector buildings, including hospitals, educational institutions, police stations, prisons, and other government offices. This initiative also includes the solarisation of tube wells, street lights, and religious sites, intending to cut electricity costs and ensure uninterrupted power. Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur chaired a recent meeting to assess progress on the project, where committee members and Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam discussed the project’s roadmap and current data collection efforts. The meeting was informed that approximately 13,000 units have already been registered, requiring an estimated 73 MW of solar power. The initiative is projected to produce 92 million units of solar electricity each year. With a budget of Rs10 billion, the project is expected to save the provincial government around Rs2 billion annually in electricity costs. The chief minister urged the committee to complete all necessary preparations within a week, emphasizing a swift launch. In addition to public buildings, plans include the solarisation of 7,000 mosques and 3,000 seminaries throughout KP, marking a comprehensive step toward sustainable energy usage in the province.
