China Backed Cable Project Eyes Multi-Billion Dollar Investment in Pakistan
On the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, held a strategic meeting with senior delegates from PeaceCable International Network, China. The PeaceCable delegation was led by Sun Xiaohua, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PEACE, accompanied by Zhuang Wei (Lucus), Sales Director. Discussions centered on enhancing digital connectivity between Pakistan and the region through submarine and terrestrial optical fibre cable infrastructure. The delegation highlighted PeaceCable’s extensive portfolio, including submarine and terrestrial fiber cables and power solutions, with a reported annual revenue of approximately USD 24 billion. The Federal Minister briefed the delegation of Honorable Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for a digital nation, Pakistan, of which a key pillar is the National Fiberization Policy. Key national goals include connecting 10 million households with fiber broadband in three years, increasing fiberized mobile towers from 14 percent to 60 percent, and drastically reducing Right of Way costs through Prime Minister-led reforms. PeaceCable was encouraged to invest in Pakistan’s FTTH rollout, enter the ODN market, and explore opportunities in terrestrial fiber infrastructure, in collaboration with the private/ public sector operators, with full support from MOITT.
