Customs Seize Over 100 kg of Smuggled Silver Worth Millions in Major Crackdown

In a series of coordinated enforcement operations, Pakistan Customs has seized more than 100 kilograms of smuggled silver and multiple vehicles used for illegal transport across Quetta, Karachi, and Gadani. Acting on credible intelligence, the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement) Quetta intercepted a Toyota Axio (Reg. No. AWQ-240) in the Yaroo area, recovering 40 fine silver bricks (999.9 purity) weighing nearly 40 kg, and 36 silver biscuits (999 purity) weighing 9 kg. The vehicle, valued at Rs. 6 million, was also confiscated. The total value of the seizure is estimated at Rs. 26.76 million. Authorities have taken the goods and vehicle into custody, with further investigations underway. In Karachi, the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement) foiled two major smuggling attempts at the Mochko Check Post on the RCD Highway. In the first operation, officers intercepted a passenger bus, Al-Hakeem (BTA-022), arriving from Gwadar and recovered 25 kg of silver worth approximately Rs. 12 million, hidden in passenger luggage. The owner, Muhammad Arif, failed to provide legal import documents. In a second operation, another passenger bus, Al-Saif (JD-553), was stopped, leading to the seizure of 20 kg of silver bars valued at Rs. 9 million. Both the bus and its crew were detained, and the silver was seized under the Customs Act, 1969. Investigations are ongoing to trace the sources, routes, and intended recipients of the smuggled silver, as well as to uncover any broader smuggling networks. Meanwhile, the Field Enforcement Unit (FEU) Khurkhera, in coordination with Uthal Police, intercepted a Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. BFR-023) on October 23, 2025, recovering 25 kg of smuggled silver. Two suspects, Shah Wali and Abdul Razak, were arrested, and an FIR has been lodged. The seized goods and vehicle remain in custody as investigations continue. A spokesperson for Pakistan Customs praised the enforcement teams in Quetta, Karachi, and Gadani for their efforts. “These coordinated actions reflect Pakistan Customs’ enhanced vigilance and inter-agency cooperation under the FBR Transformation Plan, aimed at protecting the national economy and ensuring lawful trade,” the spokesperson said.
