Customs Seizes Smuggled Silver Worth Rs. 1.34 Crore in Dera Ghazi Khan

Customs enforcement officers intercepted a passenger bus near Bawata in the tribal region of Dera Ghazi Khan and seized 30 kg of silver valued at approximately Rs. 13.4 million during a targeted operation. Acting on credible intelligence, officers recovered the unclaimed bars in luggage that lacked legal import or purchase documentation, confirming the smuggled nature of the consignment.  The operation was conducted by the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Multan, in coordination with local anti-smuggling units. The precious metal was taken into custody under the Customs Act of 1969, and a full investigation has been launched to trace sources, routes, and recipients of the smuggled goods. This seizure comes amid a wave of similar enforcement actions targeting silver smuggling, an activity that has surged in recent weeks as global silver prices cross Rs. 5,000 per tola mark. The latest case adds to recent busts in Karachi and Quetta, where large quantities of silver and even bullet-proof glass were intercepted. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reaffirmed its commitment to curbing smuggling and protecting national revenue. Authorities say enhanced inter-agency coordination, daily performance monitoring of enforcement officers, and intelligence-led operations are central to the crackdown.
