Dubai Introduces Freelance Work Permits for Tech Professionals

Dubai Internet City (DIC) has introduced new freelance permits for tech professionals. The permit is going to help people working in the tech sector in diversifying their income source. Moreover, the free zone aims at attracting local and international talent. The cost of the freelance package worth Rs. 274,499 (Dh 7,500) per year also includes the freelance permit and access to a business center. Moreover, if an individual needs a visa, the DIC will facilitate him/her in the process. Individuals working in the fields of mobile, web, software development and architecture, data science and analytics, IT and telecommunication networking, customer service, and providers of technical support and related services are eligible to apply for the freelance package. Moreover, they can work on their own schedule. Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai Media City had also introduced a package similar to this one with the same cost. It involved media and education sectors. The entire program is termed as Go Freelance. As per the estimates, there are around 100,000 licensed freelancers who are getting paid on a short-term contract basis. Moreover, the number of companies offering the option of ‘work from home’ with flexible working hours has been increasing day by day. This increase has reduced the operational costs prominently along with increasing productivity levels.
