FBR Makes 11th Hour Attempt to Meet Rs. 12.33 Trillion Tax Revenue Target
With just weeks left before the budget presentation, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has intensified its enforcement and collection efforts to meet its revised annual tax target of Rs. 12,334 billion for 2024-25. Officials told ProPakistani that FBR offices across the country will remain open until 8:00 pm on May 31 to facilitate taxpayers ahead of the deadline. Letters have been dispatched to all Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), directing them to enhance efforts to maximize revenue in the final stretch of the fiscal year. FBR has also begun issuing notices to tax defaulters. Officials confirmed that enforcement actions will accelerate further by June 30. These steps are part of a broader strategy to bridge the growing revenue gap. From July to April, FBR has collected Rs. 9,309 billion, falling short by Rs. 833 billion compared to its original annual target of Rs. 12,970 billion. The revised goal of Rs. 12,334 billion now serves as the benchmark for the remainder of the fiscal year, with tax officials under pressure to meet the adjusted figure. Officials added that the push in the final weeks includes both administrative actions and compliance enforcement to recover dues and meet the fiscal year-end deadline.
