Govt Announces Cheaper Electricity for Industrial and Agricultural Sectors for Next 3 Years

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a new three-year electricity relief package, “Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package”,  aimed at boosting Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors. The package, unveiled during a meeting with sector experts and representatives of the business community, will run from November 2025 to October 2028. Under the plan, industries and farmers will receive additional electricity at a concessionary rate of Rs. 22.98 per unit. The Prime Minister said this represents a substantial reduction from current unit charges of Rs. 34 for industry and Rs. 38 for agriculture. “The burden of the electricity supplied under this package will not be borne by household consumers or any other sector,” the premier said, praising Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for their work in preparing the package. According to the Prime Minister, a similar winter relief package last year enabled the industrial and agricultural sectors to use an additional 410 gigawatts of electricity, helping factories remain operational, boosting exports, and generating jobs. The Prime Minister said Pakistan’s economy had come a long way from crisis to stability. “We have made difficult choices and achieved results through teamwork and public support,” he said. “Our economic indicators are improving through better policies,” the Prime Minister added. “But we must continue to work hard. I am confident that with your cooperation and the efforts of our economic team, we will achieve Pakistan’s economic independence soon.” He emphasized that sustained growth in industry and agriculture would reduce dependence on foreign loans and make the economy self-reliant. Further implementation details and rollout plans are expected from the Ministry of Energy in the coming weeks.
