The federal government is working on a plan to provide energy-saving fans to electricity users on easy, interest-free installments, sources said Monday.
The scheme, approved by the prime minister, is expected to be announced in the upcoming budget. Consumers will be able to get the fans through bank support and repay the cost through their electricity bills.
By switching from regular AC fans to energy-efficient DC fans, the plan aims to save up to 5,000 megawatts of electricity. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will also be consulted on the scheme.
The program is expected to help reduce electricity bills for households.
