Govt to Refund Extra Electricity Bill Amount to Consumers
The federal government has decided to return additional charges collected from electricity consumers, potentially reducing the per-unit cost by 30 paisas for one month. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has applied to the February monthly fuel price adjustment. NEPRA will hear the application tomorrow. In February, 6.495 billion units of electricity were generated. Electricity companies were supplied with 6.666 billion units. The per-unit cost of electricity was Rs. 8.22. The reference cost for February was set at Rs. 8.52 per unit. In February, 27.12 percent of electricity was generated from water, 15.02 percent from local coal, and 1.56 percent from imported coal. 10.32 percent from gas, 14.11 percent from imported LNG, and 26.59 percent from nuclear fuel. This decision by the government could provide some relief to electricity consumers by reducing their monthly bills. NEPRA’s decision on CPPA’s application will determine the final outcome.
