The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has disclosed that salaried individuals contributed a total of Rs. 820 billion in taxes over the past three years, with the private sector accounting for the majority of the amount.
According to official data seen by ProPakistani, private-sector salaried taxpayers paid Rs. 634 billion in taxes, while government employees contributed Rs. 186 billion during the same period.
In the fiscal year 2023-24 alone, the total tax collection from both sectors stood at Rs. 368 billion.
The number of registered salaried taxpayers has also seen a significant rise.
Over the last three years, more than 550,000 new private-sector taxpayers were added, while the number of government-salaried taxpayers increased by 194,000.
