IMF Board to Vote on Releasing $2.3 Billion to Pakistan Today
The IMF Executive Board will meet today to approve Pakistan’s First Review under the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and a new $1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
Upon approval, Pakistan will immediately receive $1 billion (SDR 760 million) under the EFF, bringing total disbursements to $2 billion. Also, Pakistan will have access to additional $1.3 billion over 28 months for climate-related initiatives.
The review follows a mission led by Nathan Porter from February 24 to March 14, 2025, in Karachi and Islamabad.
A staff-level agreement was reached on March 25, 2025, for a 37-month, $7 billion EFF programme supported by federal and provincial governments. The programme targets fiscal consolidation, inflation control, reserve building, and structural reforms to support private-sector growth.
