IPPs Submit Electricity Price Reduction Request to NEPRA
A joint tariff revision request has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) by seven Independent Power Producers (IPPs) along with the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA). The request pertains to the IPPs operating under the 2002 Power Policy. The applications include requests from Nishat Chunia Power, Nishat Power, and Narowal Energy, as well as Liberty Powertech, Saif Power Ltd, Saphhire Electric Power Ltd and Engro Powergen Qadirpur. NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on the IPPs’ request on March 24, 2025. The review will consider the methodology for the exchange rate difference between the Pakistani Rupee and the US Dollar. Additionally, the payment procedures under the Take-and-Pay system will also be evaluated. This move comes as the IPPs seek to adjust their tariffs in light of changing economic conditions and operational costs.
