LESCO Exposes Major Unpaid Bills Among Government Departments

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has named several federal and provincial government departments that have yet to pay their outstanding electricity bills, with officials saying the delays are putting added pressure on the utility’s operations. Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) leads the list of defaulters with unpaid dues of Rs. 6.67 billion. Other prominent departments include the Water and Sewerage Authority Lahore (WASA) with Rs. 3.6 billion in arrears, the Punjab Irrigation Department owes Rs. 699 million, and the Lahore Ring Road Authority with a debt of Rs. 232 million. LESCO’s list of defaulting departments also includes Pakistan Railways with Rs. 519 million, Civil Aviation Authority at Rs. 168 million, and Public Works Department (PWD) with Rs. 99 million. Additional government entities like the Cabinet Secretariat, Geological Survey of Pakistan, Pakistan Administrative Staff College, and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation have debts ranging from Rs. 81 million to Rs. 32 million. Punjab Police Department owes Rs. 735 million, while District Government Lahore and District and Tehsil Hospital Lahore have dues of Rs. 535 million and Rs. 467 million, respectively. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Mayo Hospital, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Punjab Prisons Department, and Ganga Ram Hospital are also cited for significant unpaid dues. LESCO’s spokesperson urged these departments to clear their outstanding balances to ensure reliable power services and avert further financial complications for the utility.
