NEPRA Reduces Power Tariff for Industry and Agriculture Consumers

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has approved the government’s decision to reduce electricity charges for industrial and agricultural consumers. The approval follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s October 2025 announcement of a three-year package offering subsidised rates on additional electricity units consumed by both sectors. Under the revised tariff, the rate for extra units used in the agriculture sector has been cut from Rs. 38 to Rs. 22.98 per unit, while the industrial sector’s rate has also been reduced from Rs. 34 to Rs. 22.98 per unit. The Power Division said the revised rates will substantially lower the average cost of purchased electricity. It explained that agricultural consumers using an extra 100 units will see a reduction of nearly Rs. 7 per unit, while industrial users consuming an additional 1,000 units will experience a decrease of almost Rs. 5 per unit. Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said the three-year industrial package would help businesses plan operations with “greater confidence and stability”. He added that greenfield industries, including data centres and crypto mining operations, would also benefit from the new tariff structure. The Power Division stressed that the package will not affect residential or commercial consumers. It said the initiative is expected to boost production, improve competitiveness and create new employment opportunities across Pakistan. The division added that the tariff reduction is designed to stimulate economic activity and reflects the government’s commitment to making power prices more affordable and growth-oriented.
