Pakistan and Azerbaijan Join Hands to Boost Defense and Military Collaboration
Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to deepen their defense cooperation, alongside expanding ties in trade, energy, and regional connectivity. The understanding was reached during a detailed meeting in Baku on Friday between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was in Baku at the invitation of President Aliyev to join Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations, which mark the country’s military success in the 44-day Karabakh conflict. Shehbaz congratulated Azerbaijan and said its victory serves as “a beacon of hope” for people seeking self-determination, referencing Kashmir and Palestine. During the talks, the two leaders reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations. They agreed to push forward multi-dimensional cooperation, especially in the areas of defence and military collaboration, trade and investment, energy supply and joint ventures, and regional transport and connectivity projects The Prime Minister also formally invited President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, which the Azerbaijani leader accepted. Shehbaz praised President Aliyev’s leadership, particularly the peace agreement signed with Armenia earlier this year, calling it an important step for stability in the South Caucasus. President Aliyev, in response, thanked Pakistan for its consistent support during Azerbaijan’s struggle to regain the Karabakh region and acknowledged Islamabad’s constructive role in encouraging peace in South Asia.
