The total public debt stock of the federal government increased by 10 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in December 2024 as compared to the same month last year.
According to the monthly data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the debt stock increased to Rs. 71.647 trillion in December 2024 as compared to Rs. 65.188 trillion in December 2023.
On a month-on-month basis, the total public debt stock of the federal government increased by 1.8 percent compared to Rs. 70.363 billion in November 2024.
The data shows that the domestic debt of the central government increased by 17.1 percent from Rs. 42.588 trillion in December 2023 to Rs. 49.883 trillion in December 2024 while it increased by 2.7 percent over the previous month.
Out of total domestic debt, the long-term public debt increased from Rs. 34.099 trillion to Rs. 41.106 trillion and the stock of short-term debt increased from Rs. 8.370 trillion to Rs. 8.696 trillion during the last year.
