Local mobile companies in Pakistan manufactured/assembled 2.95 million units in December 2024, up 28 percent on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Local mobile companies manufactured/assembled 8.79 million units in 4Q2024, up 67 percent QoQ compared to 5.25 million units assembled in 3Q2024.
This takes total locally manufactured/assembled sales for the full year 2024 to 31.38 million units up 47 percent over 2023. This significant improvement is mainly due to the import restrictions imposed last year.
This growth is mainly driven by economic recovery, increasing share on locally assembled mobile phones amid higher taxes on imported phones, and growing population among others.
Within the locally assembled mobile phones of 31.38 million units during 2024, 59 percent (18.64 million units) are smartphones, while the remaining 41 percent (12.74 million units) are 2G phones.
Pakistan fulfilled 95 percent of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing/assembly in 2024, compared to a last 5-Years (2019-2023) average of 67 percent and 8-Years (2016-2023) average of 47 percent.
