Parliament Maintenance Given to Private Firm

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has taken a significant step by relieving the Capital Development Authority (CDA) of its responsibilities in Parliament due to its poor performance. The cleaning, maintenance, and renovation work of the Parliament House has now been outsourced to a private company. Sources told ProPakistani that the contract for janitorial services was awarded to the lowest bidder through an open tendering process under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules. The private company, which is already providing similar services to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other key institutions, has been tasked with ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the Parliament building. Officials stated that the decision was made in light of the CDA’s consistent failure to maintain satisfactory standards. As part of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s austerity and cost-cutting program, the move is expected to save approximately Rs. 100 million. In addition to financial savings, the quality of cleanliness has reportedly improved under the new arrangement. Dozens of trucks of garbage have already been removed from various parts of the Parliament premises. Flowerpots have been placed in lobbies and galleries, while the parking area has also been thoroughly cleaned. The private company is now providing daily janitorial services, resulting in a significant improvement in the overall environment of the building. Earlier, the Speaker had issued a ruling in the House criticizing the CDA for its poor performance. Under his austerity drive, several other measures have already been implemented, saving millions of rupees.
