Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday formally launched a new IT programme designed to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthen the country’s technology-driven economy.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the initiative aims to create a more favourable environment for the IT industry and marks a significant step toward equipping Pakistani youth with essential digital skills.
The programme will offer support in key areas such as freelancing, e-commerce, and software development.
A comprehensive policy framework for the promotion of the IT sector has been developed on the prime minister’s directives, the statement said. PM Shehbaz also called for modern IT training for young people, with the goal of positioning Pakistan as a regional technology hub.
“The government is committed to strengthening the national economy through the promotion of information technology,” the PMO added.
