PM Shehbaz Orders Removal of Hurdles to Fast-Track Diamer Bhasha Dam Construction

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of the Diamer Bhasha Dam and other key water resource projects. He emphasized that building new dams is crucial for increasing water storage, ensuring a sufficient agricultural supply, and mitigating floods. The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan’s economic self-reliance depends on cheap electricity and a strong agricultural base, both of which require improved water storage and efficient use of water. He directed that the Diamer Bhasha Dam and similar major projects be prioritized to ensure a stable energy supply and water security. He also ordered the immediate resolution of all hurdles delaying the dam’s construction and called for its early completion. The meeting was attended by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Water Resources Minister Moin Wattoo, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam, Advisor Rana Sanaullah, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, and senior officials.
