PPL Discovers Gas at LAL X-1 Well in Sindh
Pakistan Petroleum Limited has discovered unconventional gas at its exploratory well LAL X-1 in the Kandhkot Development and Production Lease area in Sindh’s Kashmore district, marking the first discovery from the Lower Alabaster Formation in the block. The company, which holds a 100 percent working interest as operator of the Kandhkot lease, drilled the well to test the hydrocarbon potential of interbedded limestone layers within the Lower Alabaster Formation. LAL X-1 was spudded on June 30, 2025 and drilled to a measured depth of 1,408 metres below the kelly bushing. During post-completion testing, the well flowed gas at a rate of 0.138 million standard cubic feet per day at a wellhead flowing pressure of 33 psi on a 64/64-inch choke. The results confirm the presence of hydrocarbons in the Lower Alabaster Formation within the Kandhkot lease area. Pakistan Petroleum Limited said the commercial viability of the discovery will be determined after detailed post-well analysis and the outcomes of future exploration wells targeting the Lower Alabaster play.
