The federal government has approved a huge increase in the salaries of the Chairman Senate and Speaker of the National Assembly, raising their monthly basic pay from Rs. 205,000 to Rs. 1,300,000, effective January 1, 2025.
This marks a massive increase of 535 percent in the basic salary of Pakistan’s top parliamentary figures.
According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs seen by ProPakistani, the revised salary package has been sanctioned under Section 19AA of the Chairman and Speaker (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) Act, 1975.
In addition to the new basic pay, both officeholders will receive a sumptuary allowance equal to 50 percent of their revised salary.
This comes on months after the National Assembly in February passed an amendment bill raising the salaries and allowances of parliamentarians. Under the amendment, the salaries and benefits for MNAs and senators were increased on par with federal secretaries at Rs. 519,000 per month.
