Short-Term Inflation in Pakistan Drops Below 1% 

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) based inflation for the week ended February 13, 2025, increased by 0.98 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to the data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The year-on-year trend depicts an increase mainly due to an increase in the prices of Pulse Moong (29.15 percent), Pulse Gram (27.87 percent), Powdered Milk (25.84 percent), Beef (22.75 percent), Potatoes (21.52 percent), Bananas (19.18 percent), Garlic (18.01 percent), Vegetable Ghee 1Kg (16.65 percent), Gas Charges for Q1 (15.52 percent), Vegetable Ghee 2.5Kg (14.65 percent), Shirting (14.11 percent) and Mustard Oil (13.20 percent).  While major decrease was observed in the prices of Onions (56.58 percent), Tomatoes (48.00 percent), Wheat Flour (37.18 percent), Chilies Powder (20.00 percent), Electricity Charges for Q1 (18.92 percent), Pulse Mash (11.42 percent), Pulse Masoor (11.25 percent), Eggs (10.00 percent), Rice Basmati Broken (8.83 percent) and Rice IRRI-6/9 (7.35 percent).  On the other hand, the SPI based inflation decreased by 0.04 percent on week-on-week basis due to a decrease in the prices of Tomatoes (8.80 percent), Tea Lipton (4.46 percent), Onions (3.97 percent), Pulse Gram (1.91 percent), Potatoes (1.54 percent), Pulse Moong (1.47 percent), LPG (0.86 percent), Wheat Flour Bag & Gur (0.67 percent) each, Rice IRRI-6/9 (0.48 percent), Rice Basmati Broken (0.47 percent) and Vegetable Ghee 1kg (0.42 percent).  During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 13 (25.49 percent) items increased, 15 (29.41 percent) items decreased and 23 (45.10 percent) items remained stable.
