Sindh Allocates Rs. 523.73 Billion to Education
The Sindh government has proposed a record allocation of Rs. 523.73 billion for the education sector in its 2025-26 budget, a 12.4% increase from last year’s Rs. 458.2 billion. The new allocation represents 25.3% of Sindh’s total current revenue expenditure. The funds will be distributed across primary, middle, secondary, higher secondary, college, and university education, aiming to address longstanding gaps in infrastructure, staffing, and quality of instruction. For primary education, the budget has been raised from Rs. 136.2 billion to Rs. 156.2 billion, a move expected to support the construction of new classrooms, teacher recruitment, and the provision of learning materials. Middle or elementary education will see its allocation rise from Rs. 36.2 billion to Rs. 42.7 billion, targeting improvements in curriculum delivery and student retention. Secondary education is set to receive Rs. 77.2 billion, up from Rs. 68.5 billion last year. This increase is intended to enhance science labs, libraries, and digital learning resources in high schools across the province. College education will also benefit from a Rs. 5 billion hike, bringing its total allocation to Rs. 39.53 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. The additional funds are earmarked for faculty development, scholarships, and campus upgrades.
