The Sindh government has approved a full fee waiver for students of classes XI and XII enrolled under the Karachi Inter Board over the past seven years, covering the academic years from 2017–18 to 2023–24.
The decision came during a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Sub-Committee on Finance, which includes members Nasir Hussain Shah and Zia Lanjar.
The committee approved the release of Rs1.27 billion to settle outstanding dues owed to the Karachi Inter Board.
The meeting was informed that although the Sindh government had already released Rs2.89 billion in previous years, total student fees over the period amounted to Rs4.16 billion, leaving Rs1.27 billion unpaid.
According to data presented in the meeting, 692,000 students were registered with the board over the seven-year span, and 1.213 million students appeared in examinations during that period. The government’s action ensures that no fees will be charged retrospectively for these students.
