In a significant step toward modernizing Pakistan’s agricultural sector through advanced technology, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the National Space Agency and e-Agri, a leading agri-tech innovator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate space-based intelligence with digital agricultural platforms. The collaboration aims to strengthen agricultural decision-making, improve productivity and support sustainable, climate-smart agriculture across the country.
The MoU was formally signed at SUPARCO Headquarters, Islamabad, by Mr. Zafar Iqbal, Member (Space Applications & Research) and Mr. Adnan A. Syed, Chief Executive Officer, on behalf of SUPARCO and e-Agri, respectively, marking the beginning of a strategic alliance that brings together space science and data-driven agri-tech solutions to support farmers, financial institutions and agribusinesses.
Under the collaboration, SUPARCO will deliver satellite-based geospatial services to enable informed agricultural decision-making across multiple sectors. The integration of SUPARCO’s AI-driven geospatial analytics and satellite-derived intelligence with e-Agri’s digital ecosystem will unlock advanced capabilities in climate-smart agriculture and digital agricultural finance. This space-enabled intelligence will produce actionable insights to strengthen situational awareness, performance assessment and risk-informed planning across agricultural operations, thereby enabling farmers to improve productivity, manage climate and financial risks, and access timely, data-driven agricultural services.
The initiative is expected to broaden access to agricultural finance, enhance risk mitigation mechanisms and streamline workflows across the agricultural value chain, encompassing farmers, agribusinesses, financial institutions and relevant regulatory bodies. Both organizations have expressed strong interest in deepening the partnership by leveraging each other’s technological capabilities, datasets and outreach networks to advance national agricultural and economic objectives.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Zafar Iqbal remarked that SUPARCO remains committed to leveraging space technology for Pakistan’s socio-economic development and that the partnership represents a pivotal milestone in operationalizing space-based agricultural intelligence within a market-oriented digital ecosystem. By combining SUPARCO’s analytical capabilities with e-Agri’s digital reach, the collaboration aims to uplift farming communities, enhance agricultural productivity and establish Pakistan’s agriculture sector as a credible and globally competitive player.
Commenting on the collaboration, Mr. Adnan A. Syed remarked that this partnership is an important step toward bringing more reliable, timely information into everyday agricultural decision-making. By working with SUPARCO, e-Agri aims to support farmers and strengthen farm credit systems by improving visibility into crop conditions and risks.
